The owners asked for the opposite of a white renovation. We stripped the villa back to its masonry shell and rebuilt the rear in charcoal and smoked timber: a black-joinery kitchen lit by a ridge skylight, a bathroom in honed dark stone with a freestanding tub, and a palette that makes the garden glow by contrast.
